Master Items act as the base templates for inventory. For example, you may have a master item called “500HP Electric Motor”, and all catalog entries of that item (e.g., different years, models, or suppliers) inherit their core properties from it.
This guide walks you through setting up a New Master Item step by step.
Where to Start
From the Inventory Management Dashboard:
Click the “New Item Master” button from the Quick Actions menu.
Fill Out the Master Item Form
You’ll be presented with a form like this:
Required Fields
Field | Description |
---|---|
Master Item Name | A clear, descriptive name (e.g., 2023 Dodge RAM 1500 Lariat) |
Classification | Choose Parts (consumable) or Equipment (tracked assets) |
Unit of Measure | How the item is measured (e.g., ea, cm, yr) |
Optional Fields
Field | Description |
---|---|
Refurbishable | Toggle on if this type of item can be refurbished (e.g., vehicles) |
Categories | Select a logical category like Vehicles, Electrical, etc. |
Custom Data Fields | Define extra fields like Color, Model, Voltage, etc. |
✅ Tip: Use + to quickly add a new category or data field if it doesn’t already exist.
Final Step
Click Add Master Item at the bottom of the form. You’ll now be able to create individual catalog items based on this template.
